Aviation has a gender equality problem. According to ICAO’s April survey on the status of licensed aviation personnel by gender, the number of women holding positions as pilots, air traffic controllers, and maintenance technicians reached 4.9% in 2021 – up from 4.5% in 2016.
Next issue, we look into why the percentage is low – much lower than the average for women in STEM overall – and what can be done to change things.
