Japan will attempt to build a homegrown aircraft again after the country’s Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry announced a ¥5trn ($33bn) project to build a plane powered by an alternative fuel source by 2035. 

Aircraft maintenance service provider StandardAero could be put up for sale by owner Carlyle Group, which is considering listing the business for around $10bn. 

Mexico’s new state-owned airline, Mexicana, has been sued for more than $840m by SAT Aero Holdings, the US company it hired to help with a variety of services as part of launching the company.

United Airlines has said that the grounding of some Boeing 737 MAX planes in early 2024 cost it $200m and caused the company to record a loss for Q1 despite an increase in revenue compared to 2023. 

The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is awarding $130m from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funds to nearly 100 airports across the US to increase safety and expand capacity, including $20m for smaller airports to rebuild or upgrade ATC towers.
