Issue 35 | September 2018

The European Commission recently lifted a long-standing ban on Indonesian air carriers, more than a decade after the country was blacklisted under the EU Air Safety List. Meanwhile, the commission also announced a new system to prevent unsafe aircraft from entering European airspace. We analyse how the EU gauges the safety of airlines, and how Indonesia managed to drastically improve its record.

We also speak to the IATA to find out what the major concerns are with regards to the privatisation of airports, take a closer look at Dubai International’s decision to use Siemens’ data analytics and smart building technology to guarantee energy savings, and look into the case against expansion at Jersey Airport over an appeal against airfield noise management.

Finally, we profile a project at Dallas Fort Worth Airport, which is using Neste’s renewable jet fuel to reduce its carbon footprint, and investigate the black holes of security oversight at airport terminals.
